BigCommerce was founded in 2009 by Eddie Machalaani and Mitch Harper who met in an online chatroom. BigCommerce is now a popular ecommerce CMS option.

Requirements

BigCommerce has the following requirements:

• PHP: 5.6+ (7.3+ recommended)
• MySQL: 5.5+ (5.6+ recommended)
• WordPress: 5.2+
• SSL
• *PHP intl extension is recommended to enable better currency formatting

Hosted or Self-hosted?

BigCommerce is hosted and there is no need for the user to find their own host.

Cost

Unlike WordPress, BigCommerce is not free. BigCommerce costs $29.95 per month to start, but as your sales grow, so does the price of the plan. Once you sell over $50,000 worth, BigCommerce will make you upgrade your plan to $79.95 per month. Then, once you sell $180,000 worth in a year, the plan becomes $299.95 per month.
