Who and Why PHP
In 1995, Rasmus Lerdorf created the PHP programming language. It was originally called "Personal Home Page Tools" and was eventually shortened to "PHP" about three years later. When the language was created, one of it's main goals was to create an online guest book through a web form.
PHP Environment
PHP is a server-side scripting language which is designed for web development, but it sounds like it is also used in app development and can be used to send emails.
Usage of PHP on the Internet
PHP is very common when building websites and many popular content management systems run on PHP such as WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla.
